Liposuction Las Vegas
Since first introduced in the 1970s, liposuction has remained one of the most popular body sculpting procedures for men and women wanting to remove areas of fat that resist exercise and a healthy diet. Although there are several different types of the procedure, the technique that remains most effective is tumescent liposuction. In Las Vegas, Nevada, the plastic surgeons at Anson, Edwards & Higgins are known for the exceptional results using this procedure, which limits a patient’s bleeding and bruising.
If you lead a healthy lifestyle but want a body that’s firmer and more toned, request a consultation to meet with our body contouring specialists, Dr. Terrence Higgins, Dr. Michael Edwards, and Dr. Andrew Silver at our Las Vegas practice to discuss your liposuction procedure. You can also call our office at 702-822-2100 to schedule an appointment.
Is Liposuction Right for Me?
As with any cosmetic surgical procedure, it’s important that you have realistic expectations and are in good overall health. It’s particularly important if you’re considering liposuction to understand that it is not a weight-loss procedure. A good candidate for liposuction is already close to his or her ideal weight and is seeking to tone specific parts of the body by removing small areas of fat.
Patients who benefit most from liposuction also have good skin tone and elasticity, so the skin isn’t wrinkly or crepey once the fat is removed.
The most common areas targeted by liposuction are the abdomen, thighs, lower back, and neck. Treating too many areas during a single appointment, however, doesn’t yield the best results. Liposuction is also frequently combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as a tummy tuck, breast reduction, or a facelift. It is often performed as part of mommy makeover procedures. We can also recommend non-surgical body contouring alternatives such as Liposonix®.
During your consultation, you and your surgeon discuss the best treatment options, as well as certain steps to take before undergoing liposuction, such as avoiding aspirin or other medication that can increase bleeding.
How Is Liposuction Performed?
One of the reasons we prefer tumescent liposuction is because it is safe and offers quicker recovery time with excellent cosmetic results. Tumescent means firm and swollen. In tumescent liposuction, Dr. Higgins, Dr. Silver, or Dr. Edwards injects a diluted combination of a local anesthetic called lidocaine and epinephrine, which constricts blood vessels, into the targeted area. Fat tissue becomes swollen and firm, allowing the surgeon to use very small suction tubes to carefully remove it.
Because the stainless steel tubes, called cannulas, are so small, the incisions required for the procedure are also tiny. The constricted blood vessels limit the amount of bleeding and delay the rate at which the local anesthetic is absorbed. The numbing effect of the drug can last as long as 24 to 36 hours after surgery.
Speaking from Experience
“Your safety is the most important consideration for any elective surgery. If you are considering combining liposuction with another procedure, such as breast augmentation, I’ll first review your medical history, conduct a thorough exam, and base my recommendation on what will be in your best interest.” – Dr. Michael Edwards
