ARE LASER SKIN TREATMENTS RIGHT FOR ME?
We believe that the first step for everyone is routine skin care with an aesthetician. Laser skin treatments are recommended when appropriate. The patients we treat in Las Vegas who respond well to laser skin resurfacing may have shallow textural problems, acne scars, fine lines, pigment irregularities or broken capillaries.
The best way to determine whether you will benefit from laser skin treatment is through an assessment of your skin tone and texture during your consultation with Dr. Alison Tam.
HOW ARE LASER SKIN TREATMENTS PERFORMED?
Lasers emit brief, high intensity bursts of light in a precise and predictable manner to remove layers of damaged or wrinkled skin, or to target tissue below the skin surface. Lasers vary in the wavelength used and the duration of treatment. The skin condition being treated, your skin type, and your cosmetic goals are all factors considered by Dr. Tam before determining the best laser treatment for you.
Laser Skin Treatment Options
During your consultation with Dr. Tam, you will discuss which laser skin resurfacing treatments is best suited to your needs:
Intense pulsed light (IPL)
IPL treatments are the workhorse of our laser department. Also called Foto Facial treatments, IPL treatments are used for a variety of skin conditions, including brown spots, redness, broken capillaries (telangiectasia), rosacea, red scars, and some types of hyperpigmentation.
Fractionated CO2 laser skin resurfacing has been called the top anti-aging breakthrough of the decade by WebMD®. That’s because it combines the benefits of carbon dioxide lasers with an advanced application technique that eliminates most of the harsh side effects that accompanied the older technology. At Anson, Edwards & Higgins, we use state-of-the-art Lumenis® Aesthetic lasers for ActiveFX and DeepFX skin resurfacing treatments. This laser is used for acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, textural changes and sun damage. These treatments require some downtime, but the degree can be tailored to your cosmetic goals and your available time.
Our Gemini laser is a “vascular laser” and offers treatments with both short and long wavelengths, which allows us to target veins at different depths. The pulsed KTP 532-nm laser works on more superficial bright-red blood vessels, such as broken capillaries or telangiectasia (spider veins, rosacea and red scars. The long-pulsed Nd:YAG 1064-nm laser targets deeper veins and some “port wine” stains. Although laser treatments for skin of color are often not recommended, the long-pulsed YAG laser penetrates deeper and absorbs less melanin (which gives skin color), so it is possible to treat patients with darker skin tones.
Other Dermatologic Treatments
Cryotherapy or liquid nitrogen is often used for the treatment of actinic keratosis (pre-cancer),seborrheic keratosis (benign skin growths), some brown spots and skin tags.
Sebaceous hyperplasia are an overgrowth of small bumps on the face that are flesh-colored, posing cosmetic concerns for many people. They can be treated with a hyfrecator.
Acne & Rosacea Treatment
We treat all types of acne and rosacea, from very mild to severe. Topical and oral therapies can be used, either alone or combined. All patients are referred to our medical aestheticians for skin treatments in conjunction with ongoing medical treatments.
