Fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin — it happens to all of us eventually. While we all try our best to keep the aging at bay with great skin care, laser treatments, and injectables, there comes a time for almost everyone when the non-surgical solutions are no longer enough to provide the significant, long-lasting results we really want. At this point, your plastic surgeon may recommend facelift surgery to provide the facial rejuvenation you’re looking for. In this article, we’ll give you an overview of a surgical facelift in Las Vegas at Plastic Surgery Associates.

Facelift Surgery: An Overview

A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that lifts and tightens the skin and underlying tissues of the face and neck to reduce the appearance of sagging skin, lines, and wrinkles. Your surgeon may recommend one of several variations of facelift surgery depending on your individual needs. A mini-facelift addresses excess tissue of the cheeks, whereas a neck lift primarily tightens the neck. A standard facelift combines both for aging of the face and neck. Facelifts are often combined with other procedures, including:

  • eyelid surgery
  • brow lift
  • fat transfer
  • dermal fillers
  • chin implant, and more.

When performed by a skilled board-certified plastic surgeon, patients look naturally younger and more refreshed.

Common Facelift Surgery Questions and Answers

If you’re considering a facelift surgery in Las Vegas, we recommend that you schedule a consultation with Dr. Anson or Dr. Higgins in our plastic surgery practice in sunny Las Vegas, NV. Our friendly and experienced staff is available to answer your questions and get you on the calendar for a complimentary facelift consultation. While you plan for your surgical consultation, here are some answers to commonly asked questions we’ve received about facelift surgery from our Las Vegas patients.

Who is a Good Candidate for Facelift Surgery?

If you are in good health and have significant facial sagging and wrinkles, then you are a likely candidate for facelift surgery. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine your face to check the condition of your skin and muscles to determine the best surgical technique and if a facelift will be beneficial to you.

Most important is patient health and safety. During your consultation, we will determine if you’re a good candidate for aesthetic plastic surgery by assessing your current health and medical history, including:

  • current and past medical conditions;
  • current list of medications, including prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs;
  • vitamins, herbs, and supplements, whether prescribed by a physician or OTC;
  • prior surgeries

It is vital that you disclose your full medical history to our providers to ensure a safe surgery and amazing results.

What Options are Available as Facelift Surgery Alternatives?

Nothing can completely replace a facelift surgery. However, if you aren’t a good candidate for surgery or prefer a non-surgical solution to facial anti-aging, we offer cosmetic treatments that help with the signs of aging on the face and neck that don’t require a scalpel. It’s important to note that while these treatments are beneficial for patients, they will not provide the same results as a facelift surgery. In fact, many of the treatments you’ll find below are considered adjuncts to facelift surgery, not alternatives. These procedures are often used after a facelift surgery in order to further enhance surgical tightening procedures such as a facelift surgery. We will actively work with you during your consultation and treatment to discuss expectations and results of these non-surgical alternatives to facelift surgery.

Botulinum Toxin: Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are FDA approved wrinkle relaxing injectable treatments that act as a localized muscle relaxer to reduce movement of the muscles in the upper face that cause and deepen forehead lines, crow’s feet, and brow lines. These injectable wrinkle relaxers are also used for a subtle non-surgical brow lift and can help with neck rejuvenation as well. Results are temporary, lasting 3-4 months, so patients must return to maintain their youthful look.

Dermal Fillers: Injectable facial fillers are beneficial for patients who have and have not had facelift surgery. Facelift surgery tightens the skin and muscles, but it doesn’t address volume loss. While many of our facelift patients will receive fat transfers to the face, our surgical and non-surgical patients may also benefit from facial fillers in the cheeks, around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines), and into and around the lips. Most of these fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that binds with water to plump up the skin.

Lasers: Laser skin treatments benefit patients who have and have not had a facelift surgery. While surgery and injectables address the skin’s laxity, folds, and volume loss, laser skin treatments address other signs of aging such as uneven skin tone and texture. Laser treatments can reduce the appearance of scars, brown spots, and fine lines that surgery or injectables don’t tackle.

How Much Does a Facelift Surgery Cost?

Cost is determined by many factors that vary from patient to patient. These include:

  • Extent of Surgery: A full facelift, neck lift, and mini-facelift all have different requirements. If you’re adding in a brow lift or eyelid surgery, the cost will also vary.
  • Surgical Staff Required: In addition to your plastic surgeon, we require a team of surgical support staff that will assist your surgeon and monitor you during surgery. For example, an anesthesiologist must be present during the procedure to monitor your response to anesthesia. Nurses and surgical techs will also be present, and more staff members may be required for some patients.
  • Medication During Treatment: Anesthesia, for example, varies from patient to patient. While some patients require a small amount of general anesthesia, others metabolize anesthesia more quickly and require more during the surgery. Anesthesia is also determined by the length of the surgery, so while one patient may receive a full facelift, another may also have a brow lift, neck lift, or even a chin implant as well. This extends the duration of the surgery, requiring more anesthesia. Antibiotics are also administered during surgery through an IV.
  • Surgical Center: The operating room, patient monitoring equipment, and surgical instruments are all included in the cost of your facelift surgery as well. The longer we spend in the OR, the higher the cost of surgery.

These are just a few of the factors that go into determining the cost of a facelift surgery in Las Vegas. It is for this reason that our team will need to provide you with a quote only after your complimentary consultation in our Las Vegas plastic surgery practice.
