Coming In for Your Mid-Facelift
A person’s skin says a lot about their age. As a person ages, the skin loses its smoothness and elasticity, and lines and wrinkles appear. The skin on your mid-face (cheeks and eyelids) especially can become loose and start to sag, making you look tired and older than you actually are. However, with a mid-facelift procedure, you can restore a smooth and more youthful look to your mid-face.
Read on to find out what exactly a mid-facelift is, what the procedure is like, and what makes someone an ideal candidate for the it.
What Is a Mid-Facelift?
A mid-facelift is a plastic-surgery procedure that aims to give your mid-face a smoother, more toned, and more youthful appearance. It accomplishes this by lifting misplaced volumes of fat from the nasolabial folds to the orbital rims, which is their original position. This helps to restore volume to your cheeks, which likely looked sunken before.
It is to be noted that the fatty tissues in our face are not united in a single pocket. Instead, different pockets of fat are separated from each other by thin collagen walls. These are horizontal across our faces when we are young, but as we grow older, they start to deflate, resulting in vertical folds. For this reason, a mid-facelift is also known as a vertical cheek lift.
What Is the Procedure Like?
A mid-facelift procedure is less invasive compared to a standard facelift procedure. The plastic surgeon will make small but deep incisions on your face. An endoscope may be placed inside the incision so that the surgeon can have a detailed internal view.
Through these incisions, the surgeon will adjust your fatty tissue and muscle tissue as required in order to achieve the results you want. Your mid-face will be lifted to tighten and smooth out the skin, giving you a more youthful look.
After the surgeon is done with this, they will suture the incisions closed. Generally, a mid-face lift takes about one week to recover from. If an endoscope was used during the procedure, the recovery period may even be shorter.
Because the mid-face lift is a relatively less invasive option, very rarely do patients report pain. There is very little swelling and bruising during the recovery period as well, allowing patients to see quicker, more satisfying results.
Am I a Suitable Candidate for a Mid-Facelift?
If you are someone who wishes to lift the skin on and around your eyes, nose, and mouth only, then a mid-facelift is the ideal solution for you. It is important to note that if you want to target your neck and the skin under your chin, a mid-facelift is not the procedure you should be coming in for.
A good candidate needs to have mild to moderate skin laxity. You must have realistic expectations for the procedure so that you can be satisfied with the results you receive.
