Reasons for a Breast Revision Surgery

Learn more about breast augmentation revision surgery at our Las Vegas plastic surgery practice

When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, breast augmentation generally yields wonderful results. However, implants don’t always last forever, and there are times when additional surgery becomes necessary for various reasons. If you’ve had previous breast surgery and are considering a second procedure, you’re not alone. Women choose to undergo breast revision surgery for a variety of reasons at our Las Vegas plastic surgery practice.

Top 5 Reasons Women Seek Breast Revision Surgery

1. Your body has changed.
Pregnancy, gravity, aging, hormonal changes and weight fluctuations can all bring changes to the body. Over time, even women who were thrilled with the results of their original surgery may grow dissatisfied with the look of their breasts and seek out a breast revision surgery.

2. Your aesthetic preferences have changed.
Some women find themselves wishing that they had chosen an implant that was larger or smaller; others discover that they preferred their original size and wish to reverse the augmentation with a second surgery. Either way, a breast revision can help.

3. You want to take advantage of improvements in implants and new placement techniques.
Advances in both breast implants and surgical techniques are ongoing. Women sometimes elect to have a second surgery to enjoy the benefits offered by products and procedures that were not available when they had their previous surgery.

4. You’ve experienced issues with the original implants.
Implants are not always lifetime devices, as shared here, Do Your Breast Implants Have An Expiration Date? Both saline and silicone implants can leak and deflate. In this situation, repeat plastic surgery is necessary to remove and/or replace the implant.

5. You’ve experienced issues with the original surgery.
Occasionally, women have complications with their initial augmentation surgery. Scar tissue may form around an implant, distorting the implant and causing a complication known as capsular contracture. Visible deformities can also appear if an implant shifts. Fixing these problems generally requires surgical intervention by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon.
